Beowulf Marathon Reading

  • Honey Moon Mead & Cider 1053 North State Street Alley Bellingham, WA 98225 USA (map)

Plagues, fires, floods, holiday overload, SAD -- if ever there was a time we needed a hero to help us battle the monstrous forces arrayed against us, surely this is it. Please join us at the Mead Hall on Dec 18 as we resurrect our almost-annual Beowulf Marathon -- come claim your place with courageous company in bringing this granddaddy of English epics to life. We'll collectively summon our warrior spirits as we grapple with the entirety of Seamus Heaney's award-winning translation, from Grendel’s scourge of the Mead Hall to Beowulf's final struggle with the dragon.

This is a community effort -- all are welcome to participate. The text will be provided; readers will take turns at the mic for 5-10 minute intervals, and the entire event lasts 4-5 hours. You can choose to come and go or, like loyal-hearted Wiglaf, hang in there with our ancient hero until the very end.

The event is free and open to anyone 21 and over. Sign up to read by contacting Anna at 360-734-0728 or email at info@honeymoonmeads.com. Or just show up and we’ll work it out as we go. Hope to see you there — Hwaet!
