Virtuoso Violin meets Celtic Guitar
Tickets $10-15 donation at the door
This duo makes music that will take you on a journey into the universal Fire & Grace that connects the elements of classical, folk, and contemporary musical traditions from around the world. The journey will take your mind and your heart from a Prelude by Bach, to an Irish reel, from a tango by Piazzolla, to a Spanish love song, from Winter by Vivaldi, to a Balkan dance tune. Expressive and compelling melodies, fiery and graceful rhythms, and imaginative arrangements unite this diverse music. The virtuosity and charm of this duo will transport you, entertain you, and leave you spellbound.
William Coulter is an internationally acclaimed master of the steel-string guitar. In 2005, he was awarded a Grammy for a track he contributed to a solo guitar compilation of Henry Mancini music called The Pink Guitar. His most recent recording Toward the Sun, with Irish flutist Brian Finnegan, is an eclectic collection of traditional and new tunes. Coulter has been Music Director for Tomaseen Foley’s A Celtic Christmas since 1998, and has performed with the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival, Apollo’s Fire and many other ensembles. Collaborations have been a mainstay of his career including tours and recordings with Gourd Music artists Neal Hellman and Barry and Shelley Phillips; classical guitar virtuoso Benjamin Verdery, and Irish flute wizard Brian Finnegan. Tours have taken him around the states and to Ireland, Europe, Taiwan and most recently to Chile. Coulter teaches classical guitar at UC Santa Cruz and at many summer camps and festivals. Upcoming projects include a new recording with Native Irish singer Eilis Kennedy, and tours and a debut recording with the Canadian violin virtuoso Edwin Huizinga. Coulter earned degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and UC Santa Cruz.
Edwin Huizinga is living a life goal of bringing music to the people.
